10 Winter Fundraising Ideas to Get You Started

Once your fundraising foundations are set, it’s time to start planning some engaging initiatives to get that financial fire roaring. Whether you’re a dance school, sports team or drama club, here are some of our top picks to spark some fundraising inspiration:

Winter Walk or Fun Run

Host a ‘Frosty 5k’ or a Snowflake Stroll’ where participants pay an entry fee to join and get people to sponsor them. You could encourage attendees to wear themed outfits, club merch, or funny costumes, and offer warm drinks such as hot chocolate at the end.

If a walk or fun run isn’t quite on brand for your club, you could also create some different sponsored challenges such as a bike ride, dance-a-thon, or read-a-thon and invite families to pledge donations for participation.

Winter Sports Day

Who says sports days are a summer activity?

Organise a fun, winter themed sports day with low-cost activities like sled races, (Santa’s) sack races, ‘polar precision’ football target nets, snowball tosses (using soft indoor alternatives) or an obstacle course for the whole family to join in on.

Charge an entry fee per child and provide refreshments for sale. This one would be a particularly great football fundraising idea, however, regardless of your club type, the result should be a fun day out for all the family!

Cosy Storytime Fundraiser

For a more laid-back activity, why not combine education with fundraising and host a magical reading event with winter-themed stories…

From Hans Christian Andersen’s ‘The Snow Queen’ to Julia Donaldson’s ‘The Gruffalo’s Child’, there are plenty of winter themed books to suit multiple ages. To keep the event engaging, you could pick a theme, such as a ‘pyjama party’, and include activities like making bookmarks or illustrating a scene from the story.

Charge an admission fee and add a refreshment stand during the event. Parents and families can also donate children’s books they’re not using any more, which can be sold at the event.

Cosy Movie Fundraiser

Who doesn’t love a cinema experience? Pick your favourite line up of winter-themed movies and organise a cosy movie afternoon for the whole family.

Be it ‘Frozen’, ‘Happy Feet’ or ‘Ice Age’, rent a projector and set up camp in your studio, clubhouse or gymnasium. Ask families to pay a small fee to attend and if needed, to bring their own seating.

Offer cosy blankets and, to add to the fundraising efforts, sell popcorn, hot chocolate and snacks for the ultimate comfort movie experience!

Indoor Snowball Fight

For some movement and team building, consider hosting an ‘indoor snowball fight’.

No snow, no problem- this will be like dodgeball, but a wintery version!

Organise your attendees into team’s and use soft white balls (or even rolled up socks) for a safe and fun indoor snowball battle. You can even add extra challenges like building ‘forts’ from cardboard boxes or scoring points for hitting targets. It’s a cheap fundraising idea that should be good fun for all involved.

Charge an entry fee for each child and provide refreshments for any parent spectators, though maybe keep any hot drinks out of the firing line!

Winter Treasure Hunt

Create a winter-themed scavenger hunt with clues leading kids to snowy or cosy-themed treasures. However big or small your hunt, it’s a brilliant activity to bring kids, families and your club community together.

Charge an entry fee for each child and include a small prize for all participants at the end.

January Blues Tombola

As a family-friendly and easy fundraising activity, a tombola is a must-have.

Reach out to both supporters and local businesses to request prize donations, this could include toys, vouchers, or even experiences.

The premise is simple: during your fundraiser, sell tickets to participants, and if someone’s ticket matches the number on a prize, they win!

You could also encourage the kids at your club to sell raffle tickets to their friends and family, offering an incentive to the child who sells the most tickets.

Winter Bake-Off

We may be several months out from The Great British Bake Off returning to our screens, but who’s to say you can’t hold your very own baking competition in the meantime?

Host a Club Bake-Off where participants (kids, parents or guardians) pay an entry fee to showcase their best winter-themed treats. Attendees can pay to sample and vote on their favourite.

Cosy Trivia Night

Host a warm, indoor trivia night with a winter theme.

Ask for ‘quiz master volunteers’ to create rounds like ‘Winter Around the World’ or ‘Famous Snowy Movie Scenes’.

You can charge entry fees for teams and sell snacks and drinks to boost your fundraising efforts.

Winter Photography Contest

For a creative-led initiative, consider hosting a community-wide contest where participants submit their best winter-themed photos for a small entry fee.

You can offer categories like ‘Best Snow Scene’ or ‘Cosy Winter Vibes’ and let the community vote on winners.

Partner with local businesses to offer small prizes, and potentially even a location to display winning photographs.

All Wrapped Up and Ready to Sleigh

That’s you all good to go!  So, bundle up, get creative, and let your fundraising efforts snowball into success. With the right planning and a sprinkle of community spirit, you’ll be well on your way to warming up your clubs finances this winter.
